We’re very excited that for 2020 Bright Advertising’s Charity of the Year is Treloar’s. Treloar’s is the UK’s leading centre for severely disabled children and young people. They offer outstanding teaching and learning, professional care and therapy and enduring support and guidance so that every individual can live, learn, achieve and work towards a future that is as independent as possible.
The students who come to Treloar’s are contending with the most complex physical disabilities. Unfortunately, with these disabilities come further conditions such as learning difficulties, visual impairment, no verbal communication, medical/dietary issues, mental health issues and life-limiting conditions.
They were founded as a charity in 1907 and today run a School and College with residential provision for 170 children and young people who are aged between 2 and 25 years. Treloar’s are able to offer students a unique and specialist environment where education works alongside therapy and care. This holistic approach sees the teachers, transition staff, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, medical staff, dieticians, visual impairment advisers, counsellors, technicians and engineers working as one to support every individual and ensure that they achieve all that they can.
Over the last few years they have seen a steady increase in the complexity of students who are coming to Treloar’s. Today all 100% of their students are wheelchair users, over 95% have speech, language and communication difficulties and 35% have little movement of their limbs. With this arises the need to upgrade some of the areas on the campus to meet these very complex needs.
As a charity they must raise just nearly £2 million each year. Local Authorities fund the student's education provision but everything else such as specialist equipment, buildings, transport, extra-curricular activities, staff and other enriching opportunities are funded by generous supporters.
Throughout 2020 Bright Advertising will be taking part in a wide range of charity events and would welcome any support you could give:
